Our speaker will share examples of how they are helping folks who are in the most need after a fire, earthquake, flood, hurricane, or other natural disaster.

Education Report - Linda Ferguson

During 2007, our chapter completed INS 21 and INS 22 and started INS 23 which will finish in the next CPCU year. Held the Seminar for continuing education credits for Law & Regs. In addition to that, had excellent educational meetings with speakers.

Plan to sponsor AU65 in the coming year, open to the public and room for people who are interested. If we could secure sufficient students interested in any one course, we have teachers available to teach most any insurance related subject.

Ricky Hicks receives CPCU National Training Award

During our May 2007 annual business meeting, we honored Ricky Hicks, our chapter instructor, who received a special CPCU Training award.

QUOTE: Ricky Hicks, Congratulations! For the second time you have reached a significant milestone in course leadership: Outstanding Course Leader - Level 2! The pass ratios for at least seven of your classes have exceeded national pass ratios for those courses.

Good Works - SW Virginia Food Bank (since 1994)

During the past year our chapter members contributed donations to the Southwestern Virginia Food Bank. With an 11 to 1 ratio on "buying power", a $10 contribution equates to $110 in outreach to the needy in our community. We have sponsored the SW Food Bank since 1994 as an outreach of our local chapter. At any time during the year, our members are encouraged to make their checks payable to SW VA Food Bank and send them directly to this worthwhile organization.  The contact information is as follows:

Roanoke Valley Branch / Main Office
1025 Electric Road • Salem, VA 24153
Phone: (540) 342-3011

Our chapter encourages you to participate in spreading the word on the value of the CPCU program. This national campaign encourages us to promote the value of this professional designation to both an insurance professional's career and their employer. The CPCU designation requires meeting high standards in in education, experience, and ethics. It is a worthwhile investment for an insurance professional's career. Please share the value of the CPCU programs in formal presentations or informally with other insurance professionals.

Blue Ridge Chapter - Celebrating Over 30 Years of Excellence

During 1975, several dedicated CPCU professionals saw the need to create the local CPCU chapter we enjoy today in Southwestern Virginia. During 2005-2006, our theme centered around celebrating our 30th anniversary at each of our chapter meetings. On May 11, 2006 we commemorated our 30th anniversary at Mama Maria's Restaurant (one of the best Italian restaurant's in our local area). David Lowe, Senior Claims Adjuster, St. Paul Travelers provided an EXCELLENT presentation on "Responding to Disasters".  He shared what it meant to be a Claims Adjustor and provided first hand accounts in responding to the aftermath for Hurricane Katrina.  We had excellent attendance, fellowship, and even an anniversary cake to celebrate this excellent milestone.
